Kirby 4-2 Heanor Town - Saturday 28th March

Jamie Mason hit a hat-trick for Kirby as they beat Heanor Town 4-2. Stu Verrall got the other to keep Kirby on top of the pile, second place Borrowash are in action on Tuesday night to use one of their two games in hand - a win for them means they will overtake Kirby at the top.

Ellistown 2-2 Kirby - Tuesday 24th March

Kirby drew with lowly Ellistown on Wednesday on a wet and windy frustrating night to go top of the East Midlands League. Kirby made a great start when a thro-in from Gareth King was laid back by Jamie Mason to Rob Pitman who took the ball on his chest and lifted the ball over the back-pedalling Ellistown Keeper after 7 minutes. Mason had an easy chance soon after when the ball was squared across the goal for Mason to hit into the ground and over the bar. Ellistown replied 5 minutes later when a stray ball was headed back to Kirby’s goal, the Kirby defence and keeper thought they heard the referees whistle and stopped but the Ellistown striker latched onto the ball and slotted it past the Kirby keeper.

For the rest of the match, Kirby endured Ellistown's long ball over the top approach getting troubled on only a handful of occasions. Half time came and went and the second half was much the same, Ellistown’s long ball over the top and Kirby’s lack-lustre performance was the order of the night until the last 15 minutes when Kirby applied the pressure. This paid off with only 10 minutes left of the game when Mason was found in the penalty area and with one touch he swivelled to power the ball in. The game looked in Kirby’s favour at this point but the celebrations were cut short a minute after when a defensive mix-up resulted in an own goal to level the match. Our compus location and staff.
